Daniel Brown is married to his best friend Barbie and they have three grown
sons: Sean, Evan and Andrew. Still at home are their two furry and spoiled Maltese
“children”:
Scooter J. Pup and B. Popcorn Pup.
The “J” is for Jellybean while the “B” is for Buttered.
The whole family loves dogs. Actually, they are animal lovers with dogs as their choice of pets. Their hearts are moved by the good or bad treatment of animals and they are firm believers that all animals, particularly animals as pets, make the world a better place. According to Dan, “A dog’s generous and unconditional love needs to be returned in equal measure”. His work, which is very small scale, is described by him as, “representational surreal”. “But,” he says, “they are only surreal to the viewer because they represent my personal thoughts and symbols. People often ask me what the sculptures mean. The viewers’ understandings of the images are informed by their personal histories and worldviews. As such their interpretations are as uniquely personal and valid as my own.” Dan is a life-long resident of Maryland. His MFA is from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, and he is faculty emeritus of Towson University, Maryland. He spent most of his career at Towson teaching graduate and under-graduate ceramics and human-figure sculpting. His work has been shown at the Baltimore, Delaware and DeCordova museums, and he has been represented by The American Hand, Joann Rapp and Fair Tree galleries. Articles about his work have been featured in Australian and Korean ceramics magazines. We can't wait to see Daniel's ceramic sculpture of Homer, the Maltese! |
