Karen Matkosky
I moved to Nashville with my older brother and our parents from California after the Northridge earthquake in 1994. With both our parents being musicians, Nashville was the destination of choice. I have always been an artist, and I have always felt an extreme need to give. However, I began taking my relationship with art seriously in high school at Hume Fogg Academic, when I discovered I needed art in that it was the only way I could truly express myself.
I followed my calling to Rhode Island School of Design where I graduated and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2008, after studying abroad at The Hellenic Institute of Art. In 2010, my journey took me to Bordeaux France, where I immersed myself in French culture and lived for two years, completing one year of graphic design at Ecole de Communication Visuelle. In 2011, I moved back to Nashville where I work as an independent contractor teaching art, where I continue to pursue my many passions.
