Kim Gentry
Award-winning performing songwriter, visual artist, author, and lover of animals, Atlanta artist Kim Gentry lives her life according to her favorite quote from Erma Bombeck:
"When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, 'I used everything you gave me.'" Kim does all of her creative work under the name Berteal. With a strong, unique vocal most often described as a cross between Dolly Parton and Stevie Nicks, Berteal's folk/Americana musical stylings speak to the causes she cares most about and aim to inspire listeners to step outside their comfort zone. A multi-instrumentalist, Berteal can often be seen in her shows playing an instrument she fell in love with as a child; the accordion. An active visual artist, Berteal's impressionistic-style works most often feature rescue dogs; her biggest passion. She is currently mom to 8 dogs and 5 cats, most of whom are special needs and all of whom are rescues. She gets a great deal of inspiration from her fur children. Her song "How I Wanna Be" was the theme song for Alabama Voters for Responsible Animal Legislation's work to end the gas chambers. It also won 2nd place in the 2013 Woody Guthrie Songwriting Contest. She also wrote the song "Remember Charity" for Eagle's Den rescue. Her song "On the Frontline" is about helping dogs and was funded by animal rescuers through a Kickstarter campaign.
