Shawn Doughty

PictureShawn with his rescue greyhound, Ethel,
from the Birmingham race track.
I am a self-taught artist who currently lives in Athens, Alabama and works as a chemist in the nuclear industry for TVA.  In my spare time I create a hand drawn art collage series that uses a whimsical/folk flare to represent the people, places and things that make up the states and some cities and towns of the Southern United States.  My pieces currently sell as prints and postcards in over forty different visitor’s centers, museums and gift shops throughout the south and is very popular with postcard collectors in the United States and abroad.  The goal of my collages is to capture people’s attention as they walk by and then to draw them to the piece out of curiosity and then eventually pull
from them a laugh or excitement as they point out places they have been or a fond reminiscence that I represent in a way that makes them happy.  To get a smile or laugh from someone who enjoys my art is the best compliment.  I am currently working
on a New Orleans collage to be completed in 2015.

My wife and I are also dog lovers and are very involved with dog rescues and continually help to support and foster for our local shelters.
