Art and music enrich the soul and nourish the senses; these vital forms of self-expression give meaningful purpose to my life.
I was born in 1946, Los Angeles, California and attended the Art Center College of Design, Los Angeles, California (1966-69). Intensive studies included: drawing, painting, typography and photography, with a major in graphic design. My professional career of more than 20 years began as an art director in the recording industry, I was involved in the creative direction and hands-on design of record album packaging, print advertising and marketing.
The transition in 1996, from two-dimensional graphic design to three-dimensional form was a natural progression.
Wood works well, its supple texture and unique visual characteristics make it an ideal creative medium. All pieces are one-of-a-kind; they consist primarily of lathe-turned vessels, some with lids and/or complimentary support elements. Applied surface design techniques include: freehand drawing, pyrography (woodburning), carving and low relief engraving, along with the occasional addition of permanent pigments. The process develops spontaneously; each piece may be worked and reworked numerous times until the desired overall appearance of balance, counter balance, rhythm and resolve is achieved.
