Dora Aldworth Grinnell

Picture
Dora’s work embraces the common theme of souvenirs. Each piece is a memory of a moment
in time, a phrase overheard, a person, a pet. Her influences include a love of road trips, old postcards, maps, roadside art and garage sale finds. Dora has been an avid collector her whole life- wedding cakes toppers, guitar shaped
pins, glass hearts and over 500 plastic snow globes, just to name a few.

“I love obsession and repetition, both in real life and in art. I have been focusing on mosaics for the last few years and love how I am able to combine my finds and treasures into mosaic ‘paintings’.

The daughter of an artist, Dora grew up outside of NYC.  Dora received her Bachelor of Arts in printmaking from the University of Florida and her Master of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Wisconsin. Dora has shown her work extensively in group shows throughout the United States, and in 2015 was published in ‘1000 Dog Portraits.'  She also was one of the artists recently selected to participate in the prestigious 2015
“Hearts in San Francisco”  project.  She currently lives in Northern California with her husband and rescue dog Fin.

Finny's Friend Feebie (Early Detection Saves Dogs Lives, Too)

A breast cancer survivor, Dora hopes that her pink mosaic poodle will bring awareness to the fact that approximately 50% of dogs over the age of ten will experience cancer, and as with humans, early detection is the key.
