Value:  $1500

"In keeping with the spirit of old dogs, I am donating a painting of my beautiful boy, Elvis who was with me for 17 1/2 years. This was painted in his later years  when he was looking quite distinguished! It's been almost 3 years since he passed, and I still really miss this special guy- but I know he'd be glad his portrait will go to help other old dogs receive loving care."

Joss Rossiter (3)

I started painting about 10 years ago and am mainly self-taught.  About 4 years ago, people started purchasing my art and I have now sold over 100
pieces worldwide. I retired from a wonderful career as a teacher after 43 years, and never dreamed that I would have such a fulfilling second career. I love what I do. Every day is filled with new joy.

Early this year, I was doing a commission of a family with their pet, when I suddenly realized how much I loved doing the dog itself. So I started painting my unique, vibrant pet portraits and now get commissions for cats, dogs and even horses done in my whimsical style.  This is such fun, and when the fun stops, so will I.  Commission me to do your very own pet, immortalised forever.  I also sell prints of all my work.

Mosaic Guitar by Terri L. Fitzgerald

Picture
Dog Mosaic Guitar
Value:  $325

I have always loved art - from the time when I was a child, I would draw and paint whenever I could.  I moved with my family to Germany in 1998. While there, I had the lovely experience of seeing Monet's and Van Gogh's original works in person. To view these pieces up close and see the bristles left behind from each stroke was incredibly inspiring.

After returning to the states in 2010, I started creating art. What began as an experiment, has become what you see today.  I love this medium - from choosing the instrument, to creating the design, to photographing the final product. Every piece is created from my heart and takes me on a journey. At the inception of each project, I never know the destination, but each one takes on a life of its own and with each is a piece of me.

Randy Ottenberg Parenti is a uniquely original contemporary American artist based in the San Francisco Bay area. Her goal is to transport the viewer into another dimension. Peter Nash - Portraits in Fur

Photo session of pet in your home (greater Nashville area only).
Includes an 11x14 print on canvas.
Value: $500

"The relationship between guardian and dog is unexplainable.  My work interprets that love as a family heirloom that lives on after the parting.”
Peter Nash - Nashville 2014

PORTRAITS IN FUR is the perfect reward for a portrait artist. Without love of subject there is no art. The connection between the subject and myself reflects that love. I’ve gone from Dolly Parton to poodles. From George Jones to Jack Russells. From Lyle Lovett to Labradors. All in the blink of an eye. After 25 years of shooting Country Music artists (I saw more Men In Hats than a Marine DI) I’ve turned my lens to those who have provided a lifetime of love.

Sharyn Richardson

Picture
Title:  Needs Forever Home
Dimensions:  18” x 24”
Details:  gallery wrapped archival canvas - The painting extends over the stretcher bars (1.5” deep) so that it can be attractively hung as is.
Value:  $700 (Plus, the winning bidder will receive a $150 gift certificate toward a print or commissioned painting of a special family member. The slideshow Dogs in the Family
gives an overview of 40 of the dogs Sharyn has painted in the past five years.)

The shepherd painted here is Sam, worn out from life on the farm and enjoying a  satisfying midday rest among the cornstalks. But he’ll rise to greet anyone who comes along with an enthusiastically wagging tail. Sam understands the value of  the trade—he’ll give love and loyalty for a good home and someone who appreciates him.

I have been a child portrait painter for most of my life but several years ago my focus shifted to include animals, especially family dogs. Now my work is largely with aging animals, mostly dogs nearing life's end or beyond the Rainbow Bridge and as a special reminder for their families who cannot bear the sense of total loss. When time permits I write about some of these dogs and their lives at my blog:

Tina St John Jewelry

Picture
Description:  Earrings
Value:  $50

All my jewelry pieces are original designs and handmade by me. I work in three types of metal clays: fine silver, bronze, and copper. Each type of clay is made with fine particles of metal suspended in a liquid organic binder, which gives it a clay-like consistency and allows me flexibility in working with it. Each type of clay has unique color, strength, and response to temperature and firing time. But in the end, all of the pieces result in a solid metal design.

Dana Hawk

Picture
Name:  blind Love
Description:  oil on canvas
Dimensions:  15 x 30
Value:  $800

About me & dogs
I grew up in a small town west of St. Louis, MO.  To be more specific, I grew up in the woods outside of that small town.  Not having many human children around, my dogs became my daily companions.  These relationships made the choice of subject easy 10 years ago, and I've been painting dogs since.

Painting portraits requires an artist to have some sort of relation-ship with their subject, or at least, be striving to understand them.  I enjoy the immediate connection that I
have with dogs, and seeing their true selves is always enjoyable, and usually pretty humorous.

Emily derives her inspiration from the natural world and the fantasy realm.  The process of intentional mark making is a meditation - each line and dot is a physical manifestation of thought, while at the same time a product of mindless release.  (Plus, she tells me dogs are her favorite subject!)

Description:  "Nashville" signed by Vince Gill and Amy Grant - limited edition Giclee Print, matted, framed and numbered

I am a self-taught artist who currently lives in Athens, Alabama and works as a chemist in the nuclear industry for TVA.  In my spare time, I create a hand drawn art collage series that uses a whimsical / folk flare to represent the people, places and things that make up the states and some cities and towns of the Southern U.S.  My pieces currently sell as prints and postcards in over 40 different visitor’s centers, museums and gift shops throughout the south and is very popular with postcard collectors in the U.S. and abroad.  The goal of my collages is to capture people’s attention as they walk by and then to draw them to the piece out of curiosity and then eventually pull from them a laugh or excitement as they point out places they have been or a fond reminiscence that I represent in a way that makes them happy.  To get a smile or laugh from someone who enjoys my art is the best compliment.

My wife and I are also dog lovers and are very involved with dog rescues and continually help to support and foster for our local shelters.

During my career as an artist, I have painted images of society's marginal people to draw attention to their concerns, created multi-media structures and altered art collages and produced a line of jewelry from found and recycled objects. When my 17 year old border collie Billie passed away, I dealt with my feelings of  loss by beginning a series of canine art. These magically-themed images portrayed my beautiful canine friends traveling through time-and-space on magic carpets and capturing the moon and stars for their owners. My creative repertoire expanded to include paintings of dogs in every imaginable setting: in patterned backgrounds that reflect the dog's personality, in settings that contain all the dog's favorite things, or in special tribute paintings where the soul of the dog is reflected in a special pose or gesture. There are also clients who appreciate old fashioned dog portraiture and request paintings in settings from times past. I grow attached to each of my paintings as I come to know the owner of every dog and learn more about the history, behavior and habits of my precious subject matter. I find it hard to package up  my new 'friend' and mail the image away.

Jeanie Stephenson

Picture
Name:  Aslan
Description:  Lying Lab Bronze Sculpture modeled after the artist's 14 yr old
Dimensions:  5”x6”x3”
Value:  $160

Jeanie says, "I make each piece individually by hand from the original sculpture, through the pouring of the molten metal to the final finishing and patina. Each piece is signed, dated, and ready to hold or display."

NOTHING COMPARES TO THE LOOK AND FEEL OF BRONZE
To produce a bronze requires not only the creative process of sculpture, but also a lengthy labor of transmuting that form from clay into the durability and beauty of bronze. Although most sculptors send their clay models to a foundry to be cast, Jeanie Stephenson turns each piece into bronze in my own backyard, using the ancient “lost wax” technique. From clay to wax to bronze, no hands but my own are involved in the creative process.

Mary Jennings (2)

Picture
Picture
Picture
Description:  Bolo tie repurposed from a 1980's pair of vintage earrings and includes the artist's fantastic new CD, "Metamorphosis"
Value:  $40
A singer/songwriter and touring musician for more than ten years, Mary Jennings is not defined by her musical expression alone. Throughout her professional career, she has developed a unique style both on and off the stage, compiling vintage outfits and making many of her own accessories that beautifully compliment her dynamic songwriting and musicianship.

Now, the very same creativity and strong sense of self that has marked Mary’s music and style is also the cornerstone of her latest venture—a diverse line of bolo ties for both men and women. Inspired by her late mother (an antique and estate jewelry dealer) and her own great grandfather (a singer and avid bolo tie wearer), Mary began designing and making bolo ties this year, gathering components from flea markets, antique stores, estate sales, and even thrifting adventures on the road. The result is a collection of truly one-of-a-kind items that can be worn not only as an edgy, fashionable piece of neckwear, but as a wrap bracelet, necklace, headband and more.  And since no two items are the same, you’re guaranteed a unique piece that will be a fantastic addition to your own look!

Title:  Tennessee Bluetick
Description: acrylic on canvas (Will be framed by artist)
Dimensions: 12" x 16"
Value:  $395

Cultivate Creativity. Reap Joy.

Susan's loose and charming style of painting exudes warmth, joy, and a hint of nostalgia, capturing subjects near her home in middle Tennessee, in simple strokes of color. Although she has experimented with several mediums over the years, she now concentrates in transparent oils. And Alla Prima (painting in one session) is her style preference.

Susan is a member of the Chestnut Group Plein Air Painters and co-founder and immediate past president of Arts in Action, Inc. which is an art advocacy non-profit partnering with government agencies, businesses, schools, and other non-profits in the southern, middle Tennessee area to promote art and its many benefits. She also sits on the boards of Rippavilla Plantation and the Maury County Historical Society.

Susan is a very active art instructor, teaching both children and adults in a variety of settings; on-going classes, evening or afternoon paint-along parties, private lessons, and one- and two-day workshops. Most of her classes benefit worthy non-profits in her home town of Columbia, Tennessee, including Friends of Maury County Parks, Pet Pals of Maury County, The Family Center, Maury Regional Medical Center Foundation, and aMuse’um Children’s Museum, just to name a few. A portion of the fees for her commissioned pet portraits benefit 3 local animal rescues: Pet Pals of Maury County, Snooty Giggles Dog Rescue, and Russell Rescue.

She resides in a partially restored, century-old Craftsman cottage in Columbia, TN, where she can be found capturing free moments painting, reading, blogging, gardening, or sipping sweet tea on the front porch with numerous well-loved, but very misbehaved, rescued fur-babies.

You will find her works locally at Wall Candy, Rippavilla, and Loblolly in Columbia. In Nashville, her work is at Mid-town Gallery on Broadway. In Seaside, FL, she is represented by Quincy Avenue Art and Things. You can see her complete collection online, visit www.susanejones.com,  www.charmofthecarolines.com,  or www.dailypaintworks.com.

Rosie's Clothes (5)

Description:  Doggie Dress with guitar print (med) or Gift Certificate if you need a different size
Size:  (1) Medium (i.e. French Bulldog), (2) your choice, (3) your choice
Value:  $45 each
Description:  Dogie Bowtie with guitar print (2 auctioned separately)
Value:  $12

Lisa Drobka says, "I created Rosie's Clothes in memory of my beloved French Bulldog Rosie. Rosie had a traumatic, yet wonderful life. Because of her story and the impact she had on my life, I created a bulldog clothing line. The proceeds will be used to help dogs in difficult circumstances. Funds from your purchase will help dogs who need medical treatment, rescued from unsafe living conditions, or just a snuggly coat.

My little brindle Rosie had a tough past. She was used as a breeder in a puppy mill until she was rescued and later adopted. She lived with a nice woman for a few years until she fell onto difficult financial times. Sadly, she surrendered Rosie to the French Bulldog Rescue Network (FBRN). As a volunteer of FRBN, I fostered Rosie while the network looked for a forever home. At first, Rosie had a challenging adjustment when she came to live with my family. She despised my two year old French Bulldog, Louis and was visibly unsure of her surroundings. It took almost two months for her to feel safe in her new environment. But eventually, she let down her guard and showed us her spunky personality.

As a foster parent, my responsibilities included interviewing and introducing Rosie to potential families, where she could have a forever home. One day, Rosie and I were driving home from such a visit and the family seemed very interested in her. In the car, Rosie turned her head in my direction and gave me a look that said "Are you really going to make me go through this again?" After all Rosie had been through, the puppy mill, her surrender from a previous owner, and a traumatic adjustment to her foster home, I felt I couldn't put her through one more ordeal. So I adopted Rosie and enjoyed every day I had with her.

Rosie was a part of my family for almost five years. Creating the coats allowed me to transform my grief from her passing into something positive. Through Rosie's Clothes, I am able to keep her memory and spunky spirit alive. Thank you for helping dogs in their time of need, just like Rosie, they deserve a second chance for a happy life."

Monica Martino, Yankee Dime Creations (4)

Here is the story of Yankee Dime. So in my former life I was a TV producer, specializing in what I usually call the “guys in jeopardy” genre — shows like “Deadliest Catch,” “Whale Wars,” “Storm Chasers,” and others. I loved every miserable moment of it right up until 2012 when I almost died while filming gold-mining rednecks in the Amazon. I spent almost two years in tremendous pain, recovering from my injuries and the resulting surgeries to my back and shoulder. During that long dark time I fell in love with painting and drawing again. It is no exaggeration to say that tapping into that long-forgotten creative side helped me heal and kept me sane. While my body got stronger, so did my optimism, hopefulness and imagination.

I am now mostly recovered but I still paint every day. And I feel very lucky that there are other people out there who might appreciate my weird little animals and the worlds I have fashioned for them.

Catherine Whiteman - Blankets in Bloom (2)

"Since I can remember, I have always loved blankets. For me, it it is not only that they keep you comfy cozy, but many of mine are full of memories, too. I still have blankets made for and given to me by very special people at different points in my life.  I began making blankets as gifts for family and friends -- the more I made, the more I found myself making. It doesn't seem to matter how young or old the recipient is, the reaction is the same. Whether getting pictures of my nephews curled up on the couch in their lacrosse blankets or getting pictures of a friend's newborn heading home wrapped in one of my receiving blankets - the images are happy ones. They love them!

And let's not forget our furry friends, too! My sister-in-law's dog has a special one she lays out when her pup attends the sporting games of her human kids. They are great in cars or in your home as a place for your pup to rest its paws.

We have one here for every person and paw! CUSTOM ORDERS WELCOME! If you have a specific idea or theme in mind, please feel free to contact me directly. I am happy to make your idea a reality!

Carol Lew - Old World Pet Portraits (4)

Description:  8x10 Print on heavyweight vellum finish paper

Per Carol Lew, "It's All About the Animals.  There’s something about my artwork that’s deeper to me than just putting a dress on a pooch. Classic historical human portraiture depicts the subject as proud, dignified, and elegant. I like to create my Old World Portraits with that same air of importance because I believe animals are no less worthy than human beings are. Yea, we have an edge over them, but they are deserving of our respect…. and even an honored spot over the mantle.

I could live without my furry friends, but what kind of a life would that be? No, my ideal life includes my dogs Walter and Louise, my cats Cutie-Patootie and Barney, a flock of egg-laying chickens, and whatever family of kittens I’m fostering for our local animal shelter. Oops, did I forget to mention how great my husband is, though he walks on two legs? We live and work in a cozy old farmhouse in the western mountains of Massachusetts. My sincere thanks goes to every person who purchases my artwork. You have made it possible for me to live my ideal life.

This serious-looking Bulldog is dressed in royal renaissance attire, much like would have been worn by Henry VIII. I think he wears it more handsomely than Henry did, and it's just the thing for fans of Bully breeds. This print is print is on heavyweight vellum finish paper, and it looks great in a fancy frame.
Picture
Dalmatian - "Captain James"
This handsome fellow wears his three corner hat proudly with a great big red bow added for good measure. Thank goodness for brave dogs like this Revolutionary War Hero, or we might not know ourselves as Americans! Dalmatians are known as dignified, dependable, and high-spirited breed, so it's fitting that he would be depicted as a defender of our country in its early stages.
Picture
Great Dane - "Cornelius Dane the Great"
In the style of Early American Folk Art, this simply painted Great Dane stands in front of his land and house. In the late 1700s and early 1800s, self-taught itinerant painters would travel around the country, seeking families who would house and feed them in exchange for creating paintings. In these pre-photography days, it was quite a special thing to have portraits hanging on your wall.
Picture
Saint Bernard - "Stanley"
Stanley is dressed in full revolutionary war military attire, but he looks more prepared to drown his enemy in slobber than take arms. As unlikely a fighter as Saint Bernards might be, he looks adorable in the uniform. In the style of American folk art portraiture, this print is a lovely addition to a home's decor.

Create a lasting first impression that is devoted to simple ideas that live forever - love and devotion. An abundance of door knockers in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, inspired me to create "Knock, Knock." There, I found many door knocker subjects, but this is the first one I've seen that expresses the love one has for a canine companion. I enjoy holding a dog's foot and decided I want a foot on a door knocker for my front door. It is a subtle reminder to my guests that I love and respect my very best friend.

Classical Realism, from Hounds to Humans. Each bronze, gold, or sterling silver piece is signed, numbered and includes my mark. Each is made by hand in the USA.  Joy Kroeger Beckner is inspired by sensuous shapes of skin, bone and muscle. She models wax into classical forms, which are then cast into bronze. She creates Awards, Medallions, and Medals for groups and associations. Her Dachshund Bronze Sculptures have earned numerous awards, and frolic in collections worldwide.

Annie Rone

Picture
Title: Queenie

Dimensions: 30"x30"

Retail:  $950

Annie Rone is a self-taught artist who paints subjects that make her happy. She is inspired by her three boys, six dogs, and the art that comes from the children she teaches. Annie's favorite quote is from Pablo Picasso: "It took me four years to paint like Rafael, but a lifetime to paint like a child."

Using her Master's degree in Education and her passion for paint, Annie teaches art lessons to children and adults from her studio, The Painted House, in Tullahoma, TN. Annie likes to practice what she preaches. She tells her students that "perfect is boring" and to think of their canvases as their playgrounds. Annie encourages them to just go for it and to not think too much. Lots of layers, texture, and "love" create the masterpieces she so enjoys and appreciates.

Her artwork can be found at Local Color Art Gallery in Nashville, TN, The Tullahoma Fine Arts Center, and The Painted House. Every time one of Annie's paintings sells, her boys get so excited that their Mom's artwork is going to be in "some random person's house!" So, to all of those random people, Annie thanks you very much.  Annie is the owner and operator of The Painted House in Tullahoma, TN.   www.thepaintedhousetullahoma.com

The vision of Drumboden Tiles materialized several years after moving back to her home state of Tennessee.

Picture
Description:  Old Faithful, Dogs of a Certain Age - book signed by author
Retail:  $20

A stunning and indelible collection of portraits and stories that capture dogs of a certain age in all their patchy, scruffy, jowly, and devoted glory—an homage to man’s best friend, based on the popular international photography project.

The dogs in Old Faithful are well worn, well loved, and well on in years. After his grandmother’s 100th birthday party, photographer and dog lover Pete Thorne found himself taking photos of elderly dogs. In their aged, imperfect faces, he saw a depth of life, joy, and wisdom missing from more youthful subjects. He gathered these rich and powerful portraits into a web series he called “Old Faithful.”

A sweet and moving keepsake, Old Faithful demonstrates that aging can be beautiful, and offers profound lessons for all of us, no matter our age.

Traer Scott

Picture
Name:  Finding Home - shelter dogs & their stories

Description:  book signed by author,
newly released 22 Sep 2015

Value:
$20

Bold, retiring, serious, sparkling, quirky, or lovable—the dogs in Traer Scott's remarkable photographs regard us with humor, dignity, and an abundance of feeling. Scott began photographing these dogs in 2005 as a volunteer at animal shelters. Her first book, Shelter Dogs, was a runaway success, and in this follow-up, Scott introduces a new collection of canine subjects, each with indomitable character and spirit: Morrissey, a pit bull, who suffered from anxiety related behaviors brought on by shelter life until adopted by a family with four children; Chloe, a young chocolate Lab mix, surrendered to a shelter by a family with allergies; Gabriel and Cody, retired racing greyhounds; and Bingley, a dog who lost his hearing during a drug bust but was brought home by a loving family that has risen to the challenge of living with a deaf dog. Through extended features we become better acquainted with the personalities and life stories of selected dogs and watch as they experience the sometimes rocky and always emotional transition to new homes. The portraits in Finding Home form an eloquent plea for the urgent need for more adoptive families, as well as a tribute to dogs everywhere.
